Chilton ‘luck’ bags him front of grid tiffany and co

TOM CHILTON made an astonishing comeback from the gravel trap to snatch pole ahead of today’s opening British Touring Car Championship race at Croft

The 25-year-old described the session as “the luckiest of my life” after he claimed the top spot with a lap time of 124:629mins around the Darlington track yesterday afternoon

And it was a lap he had not expected to have been celebrating, after crashing into a barrier earlier on in the half-hour session

After his Team Aon Ford Focus ran off the track and clipped the barrier, it looked as if his afternoon was over ed hardy clothing

But he managed to crawl back around to the pits where the team made some urgent and fast repairs to the front end, and managed to get him back out on the track before the session ended

“I only just got back out of the gravel trap,” he said “Then on my second run, when I set the time, I hit a kerb really hard and thought I’d punctured a tyre but it all held together “Other than that it was the perfect lap but I was very lucky”

Second on the grid for today’s opening race is the Honda Racing Team Civic of Gordon Sheddon, while WSR BMW driver Rob Collard qualified third

Fourth fastest was Carlisle wonder-kid Alex MacDowall The 19- year-old rookie ran consistently at the top all afternoon, and appeared to out-qualify his Silverline Chevrolet team-mate Jason Plato with ease Ed hardy jeans

Meanwhile, the title fight rumbles on between Plato and Matt Neal, with Neal getting the advantage over his great rival despite carrying full success ballast

The Team Honda Racing driver, who currently sits on 98 points – eight ahead of Plato – lines up fifth with Plato sixth

Although the pair appear to have buried their differences off the track, the rivalry remains strong once they get behind the wheel, and Neal believes it could prove to be a real battle royale today “Initially, Jason was three or four places behind me but when I looked at the times at the end he’s right there with me,” he said “That’s going to be a very busy first corner tomorrow Cheap Jordan Shoes

Meanwhile, honorary Geordie Plato, who was also carrying ballast, says his best hopes will come in this afternoon’s second race

“This is the sort of circuit where success ballast does give you a bit of a kick in the teeth I’ve got it again for race one tomorrow and don’t expect to be able to make any progress

“I think the best I can hope for is sixth and then for the weight to come off for race two Then we’ll have a car that can move forward”

Tyneside’s Arthur Forster, who is still very much in the development stages with his Forster Motorsport BMW, struggled to get to grips with the car around a track where he has won countless Mini races

But despite qualifying in 20th position, Forster will be giving it his all today and hopes to give local fans something to cheer about
